Individual members of the EAIP are individuals who are not members of an accredited EAIP training institute, but have been practicing integrative psychotherapy for at least five years, and wish to become members of an European-Wide Organization. Individual members are welcome to participate as observers at the EAIP AGM (Annual General Meeting). Individual membership does not grant voting rights at the AGM, but otherwise individual members may access all relevant aspects of membership of EAIP.
Forms of Individual Membership
1. Individual Membership is open to Individual Integrative Psychotherapists who do not belong to an Organisational Member of EAIP and who fulfil the accepted standards required of practitioner members of Organisational Members.
2. Individual Ex Officio Membership is for trusted individuals who have a valid and essential non-psychotherapy contribution to make to EAIP
Requirements for Individual Membership as defined by the EAIP
– Must have an academic degree or equivalent (and must demonstrate equivalence by some means) and training as an integrative psychotherapist according to the EAIP Training Standards;
– Must be a member of a professional organisation in the field of psychotherapy;
– Must have an experience of at least 5 years in the practice of integrative psychotherapy.
Training requirements:
1. The total duration of education and training will be no less than 3200 hours, spread over a minimum of seven years, with the first three years being the equivalent of a relevant university degree. The later four years must be in a an integrative psychotherapy training, no less than 1400 hours.
2. The integrative psychotherapy training meets the EAIP criteria for basic professional training and includes the following elements:
A. Personal psychotherapeutic experience or equivalent: This should be taken to include relevant psychotherapy, self-experience and other methods involving elements of self-reflection, therapy and personal experience, not less than 250 hours;
B. Theoretical study in integrative psychotherapy, which should include the following elements: theories of human development throughout the life-cycle, an understanding of other psychotherapeutic approaches, a theory of change, an understanding of social and cultural issues in relation to psychotherapy, theories of psychopathology, theories of assessment and intervention and a full understanding of the ethical and institutional aspects of the profession.
C. Practical training, not less than 300 hours under supervision, at least two years in duration.
